Criminal Defense
Individuals who are accused of a crime have certain rights. One of these rights is to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. DUI and Alcohol Offenses
If you have been arrested for driving under the influence, you face administrative and criminal penalties. As a former law enforcement officer, I am well-versed in Illinois DUI laws. In my nine years as a police officer, I learned a great deal about blood alcohol content (BAC) testing, DUI arrest procedures, and traffic stops. I know that many DUI arrests involve improper field sobriety tests, faulty breathalyzers, lack of probable cause, and other mistakes that can make the evidence against a DUI defendant inadmissible in court. I can uncover vulnerabilities in the prosecution’s case and use flaws to strengthen my arguments in your defense.
Whenever possible, I seek to have DUI charges against my client dismissed entirely. When this is not possible, I help my clients qualify for diversionary programs and pursue other legal avenues that minimize the penalties they face.
Multiple DUI
Typically, a DUI is a Class A misdemeanor in Illinois punishable by up to a year in jail and a maximum fine of $2,500. However, the penalties increase for second, third, and subsequent DUI convictions. If you have been charged with drunk driving and you have been convicted of DUI in the past, representation and support from a skilled DUI defense lawyer are absolutely essential.
Felony DUI
Third, fourth, and subsequent DUI convictions are felony offenses in Illinois. A DUI may also be a felony if the driver was involved in an accident resulting in serious injury or death, did not have car insurance, or was driving on a suspended or revoked license. The penalties associated with felony DUI or aggravated DUI are much harsher than penalties for misdemeanor DUI. If convicted of aggravated DUI, you could be sentenced to several years in prison and fined up to $25,000.
Traffic Violations
Receiving a traffic citation or traffic ticket may seem like a minor concern. However, accumulating too many traffic tickets can lead to suspension of your driver’s license and other serious penalties. I am equipped to represent individuals who have been accused of traffic violations as well as those charged with reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, fleeing and eluding police, and other criminal offenses.
